Great Staughton Allotments

Village Allotments

Do you dream of growing your own vegetables, fresh fruit, herbs and flowers? If so, you will be pleased to learn that Great Staughton has a site containing 22 allotments.

There is also a young communal orchard on the site which was planted approximately 3 years ago.

Regular work parties to keep the allotment area tidy, weed free and in good repair, take place once a month from the spring months to late autumn.

The allotments holders meet once a year to discuss any issues and agree any particular work that needs doing. The annual rent is £25.00 to 35.00 per plot, dependent upon size. This includes the annual membership fee of £10 which is used to help offset any expenses incurred in the maintenance of the site.

Allotmenteers are a friendly bunch and are always happy to offer guidance to new members and also love to pick up tips from other members.

Village Hall Improvements

Great Staughton Village Hall committee is delighted to announce we are the fortunate recipient of an Amey Cespa grant valued at £22,250. This together with money from the Parish Council, and a loan from the Friendship club will enable major improvements to be made to the hall with respect to its heating, insulation, doors windows, toilets and decorations.

The work will necessitate the closure of the hall and will take place from March 5th to March 25th 2018. All users will have to find alternatives during that period. The pavilion is available for use if possible on most nights of the week.

Any queries please contact Bob Jewell on 01480 861259 or bjewell12@hotmail.com or Vicky Goldsmith on v.goldsmith213@:btinternet.com or 07739469243.

Do you want to have a say about your village?

Is there something you want doing?
Are you dissatisfied with the current Parish Council

This is your chance – Next May 2018 there will be the opportunity to elect a new Parish Council. This is open to all residents on the electoral roll in the Parish. Some current Councillors will stand for re-election but others may not and so some new blood will be welcome and indeed necessary.

The Parish Council on your behalf looks after the village hall, the playing field and pavilion, maintenance of the village as well promoting local road safety measures and making appropriate representations on planning, and other matters.

More detail will appear in subsequent articles but if you are interested, curious, or just wonder what it is all about – contact me, the clerk, or any of the Parish Councillors, all names in Life Magazine.
